The Girls are Never Gone Book Cover by Sarah Glenn Marsh

Synopsis:

Content Warnings: scary images, death

The Conjuring meets Sadie when seventeen-year-old podcaster Dare takes an internship in a haunted house and finds herself in a life-or-death struggle against an evil spirit.

Dare Chase doesn’t believe in ghosts.

Privately, she’s a supernatural skeptic. But publicly, she’s keeping her doubts to herself—because she’s the voice of Attachments, her brand-new paranormal investigation podcast, and she needs her ghost-loving listeners to tune in.

That’s what brings her to Arrington Estate. Thirty years ago, teenager Atheleen Bell drowned in Arrington’s lake, and legend says her spirit haunts the estate. Dare’s more interested in the suspicious circumstances surrounding her death—circumstances that she believes point to a living culprit, not the supernatural. Still, she’s vowed to keep an open mind as she investigates, even if she’s pretty sure what she’ll find.

But Arrington is full of surprises. Good ones like Quinn, the cute daughter of the house’s new owner. And baffling ones like the threatening messages left scrawled in paint on Quinn’s walls, the ghastly face that appears behind Dare’s own in the mirror, and the unnatural current that nearly drowns their friend Holly in the lake. As Dare is drawn deeper into the mysteries of Arrington, she’ll have to rethink the boundaries of what is possible. Because if something is lurking in the lake…it might not be willing to let her go

My Review:

I throughly enjoyed The Girls are Never Gone. I loved the representation that it has, with our main character having a disability being diabetes type one and also the lgbtqia representation, as it has a sapphic romance which is done beautifully in the book.

I loved the character development that took place in the novel, as Dare, our main character grew from being close minded to being much more open minded especially in regards to the supernatural. But she also grew in other ways, such as being more sure of herself, more trusting of others and being more brave after facing the horrors that she is faced with.

I found the plot developed really well throughout the novel, it definitely kept me hooked and wanting to know more about the mysteries behind the girls disappearance. I loved the descriptive language used throughout it really added to the creepy atmosphere of the book. I do wish that there was a bit more consistency in regards to pacing in the novel as at the beginning I found it a bit slow and the end a bit fast but even with the pacing issues The Girls Are Never Gone is definitely worth reading, especially for the world development!

I loved seeing our main characters: Dare, Quinn, and Holly discover the history of the place and the people who used to live there. The way that the history was told to us was really well done. The fact that at the end, there was still some mysteries left and I am still wanting more says a lot.

Overall, I really hope that there is a sequel as I loved the characters and I want to see more of them, learning more about the mysteries that have not been solved and I just want to see Waffles again, that dog was my favourite character! A really good supernatural thriller which is definitely worth reading.

Favourite Quotes:

1)"Waffles himself is busy with his new hobby: Swimming Lessons! You can follow his progress on Insta @WafflestheWonderDog."- Waffles is my favourite puppy!

2)"This has been Attachments. Thanks for listening. Sleep tight."- This gives me proper Most Haunted vibes, i love it!

3) "I believe a girl can be fierce as a storm, her own force of nature."- I loved the relationship that developed, the sapphic romance was really good.

4) "I've been in the house where she once lived, but now I'm in her territory. At her bitter mercy."- I loved this line, it makes the supernatural element come across as something not to be messed with.

5) "I know what hides in the dark. Water, seemingly from nowhere, slides down the walls as though the room is weeping"- It is descriptions like this, which really add to the creep factor in this story.

Edie In Between Review!

"As it is above, so below" Edie in Between written by Laura Sibson is such a fantastic witchy read! I adore all of the witchy elements in this book including tarot, crystals, spells, rituals, magic, and finding magical items! One thing I really loved was the lgbtqia+ representation in this book, I felt like it was very well done! So if you love sapphic reads, Edie in Between is definitely for you! The relationship built in this story I felt was really well developed! I also love the way that grief is handled in this story, the fact that it is not something you just get over, but it stays with you always. Sometimes as Edie learned that grief can be a reminder of love, which is in itself is a powerful form of magic. I think the way that it was handled sensitively through the plot was really well done. I also loved the language used in this story, especially when it came to magic. It also helped to make the story more immersive which I really liked. I think my only issue was t...

All of Us Villains Review! 5 Stars!!

All of us Villains is written by Amanda Foody and Christine Lynn Hermen. I want to first say a big thank you to them, the publisher Gollancz, and Netgalley for providing me a free copy to review! So let's get into it. I was not fully prepared on just how much I would grow to care about the characters. Even though these characters are not nice people (trust me they are not), the writers still ensure that they come across as human which I think is really important when writing these types of characters as it gives them an element of depth. This also allowed them to do great character development throughout the novel which also made sense to the characters. I really enjoyed the way the character development was done and I would say it's the novel's biggest strength. Another element I really enjoyed was the world development, I thought it was really fleshed out whilst still leaving some intrigue that makes me want to find out more. I really loved learning about all of the diffe...
